Privacy Policy
How we handle the info you share with us.
Last updated: July 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Category Events LLC ("Category," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you purchase tickets, sign up for our list, visit categoryparty.com, or attend an event.
1. Information We Collect
- Purchase information: name, email address, phone number, billing details, and order history, collected when you buy a ticket through our ticketing provider (Tixr, Universe, or other Category-authorized platform).
- Marketing sign-up information: name, email, and/or phone number, collected only if you affirmatively check the opt-in box at checkout or at an event sign-up point.
- Event/venue information: photos, video, or audio captured at the event (see our Terms and Conditions, Section 8, for the release governing this).
- Website & automatic data: when you visit categoryparty.com, we (and our analytics and advertising partners) may automatically collect your IP address, browser type, device information, and pages viewed, using cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies. This includes analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) to understand site usage, and remarketing/retargeting cookies to show you Category ads on other sites. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may limit some site features.
- Promotions, contests & sweepstakes: if you enter a promotion, contest, or sweepstakes we run, we collect the information you provide to participate.
- Newsletter, feedback & survey information: information you give us when signing up for our newsletter, filling out a feedback form, or responding to a survey.
- Information from other sources: we may also receive information about you from partners we work with (such as venue, sponsor, or marketing partners) or collect it from you offline (for example, at an event sign-up table), and combine it with the information described above.
2. How We Collect It
- Directly from you at the point of ticket purchase via our ticketing provider.
- Directly from you if you check the marketing opt-in box (unchecked by default) at checkout, or sign up at an in-person list/QR sign-up at an event.
- Automatically when you browse categoryparty.com, via cookies and similar technologies.
- Offline, such as at an event sign-up table, or through partners (venue, sponsor, or marketing partners) who share information with us.
- Some information is collected passively, including via cookies and similar technologies described above and information received from partners.
3. Marketing Opt-In
We only send marketing communications (email, SMS, or event announcements beyond your specific order confirmation) to guests who explicitly check an opt-in box at checkout or sign-up. Leaving this box unchecked means you'll only receive transactional messages tied to your ticket purchase (confirmations, event-day logistics, changes to the event you bought a ticket for).
You can unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time via the link in any email, by replying STOP to any SMS, or by emailing hello@categoryparty.com.
4. How We Use Your Information
- Fulfilling your ticket order and providing event-day logistics.
- If opted in: sending you updates about future Category events, presales, and offers.
- Internal purposes: attendance analytics, audience segmentation, and event planning.
- Improving categoryparty.com and understanding how visitors use it.
- Creating aggregated or de-identified data (information that no longer identifies you) for any business purpose, including reporting to partners and sponsors.
5. Who We Share It With
- Our ticketing provider (Tixr, Universe, or other Category-authorized platform), which processes your order and payment.
- Cymbal, our CRM and marketing platform, which receives contact and order data synced from our ticketing provider for every ticket purchase.
- Event sponsors and marketing partners, in connection with a specific event, so they can market related products or services to you or measure campaign effectiveness.
- Payment processors, as required to complete your transaction.
- Legal and safety disclosures: we may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or where we believe in good faith it's necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Category, our guests, or the public in an emergency.
- Business transfers: if Category is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
- We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes above, or until you request deletion (see Section 8).
7. Your Rights (California Residents)
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of that information, and opt out of its sale (we do not sell personal information). To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@categoryparty.com.
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Contact us immediately at hello@categoryparty.com if you believe your information has been compromised.
9. Children's Privacy
Our events are 21+ and this policy is not directed at anyone under 21. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change to how we use your personal information, we will provide at least 30 days' advance notice by emailing the address on file and/or posting a notice on categoryparty.com before the change takes effect. Non-material updates will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above.
